What Are "Move Over" Laws?

No matter where you are traveling in the United States, you need to be aware of the existence of "Move Over" laws. These are laws that are enforced in all 50 states to help protect emergency workers and others who are lending roadside assistance.

If you see a law enforcement vehicle, ambulance, fire truck, or tow truck on the side of the highway, you must change lanes to give extra room for these emergency workers if at all possible. If you cannot safely change lanes, you should decrease your speed and be extra watchful as you pass.
